FAQ

How should I contact you?

Calling is the best, but we understand this can be harder for some people, so email is an option. If you choose to email, we will respond as quickly as we can with a follow-up by phone. If you decide to call and you get the voicemail, we will call back as soon as we are able. With either option, we will spend time getting to know a little bit about you and your current situation.

How do I schedule an appointment?

At the end of our call, we will pick a date and time that works for you. Basic information and a credit card number will be gathered as well. Why do we ask for a credit card? We ask that you pay for your first session at the time of scheduling to hold your spot. This helps keep everyone committed to the therapy appointment and process as well as keeps the end of the first session therapeutic. For further information see our “payment” section.

Do You Offer Services Electronically?

Yes we do!  We offer phone and video sessions.

What can I expect in the first session?

When you come in the first time, we will have a small amount of paperwork to fill out. During the session, and 1-5 sessions to follow, we will ask you a lot of questions about where you were, where you are now, and your hopes for the future. This process helps us get a whole-picture-view of your life.

What is the rest of therapy like?

Where the magic happens. Really these sessions are hard work. We will go deeper. Even though feelings of vulnerability and exposure are normal and necessary for growth, we will go at your pace. Your pace will change as you gain confidence and stability.

Do I have to come every week?

Therapy is most effective when you come weekly.

How long will I be in therapy?

Length of time is different for every person. There are a number of factors that affect the length of time you are in therapy. They include:

  • Commitment to therapy
  • Work done outside the sessions
  • Presenting problem
  • Support systems
  • Complementary services (physical fitness, nutrition, regular doctor visits, etc)
Is there a guarantee I will get better?

Therapy is a partnership and it takes both of us working together to make things work.
I will:

  • Be fully present
  • Provide a safe and private place to discuss difficult topics
  • Be direct and active in our work
  • Be compassionate
  • Be consistent
  • Be ethical
  • Accept your feedback
  • Be on time

I ask you to:

  • Keep our work in mind in between therapy sessions
  • Be honest and open with me
  • Be willing to share your stories
  • Commit to your scheduled times
What forms of payment do you take?

We accept cash, check, card, or HSA accounts. At the beginning of each session, we collect payment for your next scheduled time. This helps us end sessions on a therapeutic note. Please note: we keep credit cards for all clients with a signed agreement to charge your card at the beginning of each session. Doing so helps keep the focus on therapy and keeps things simple.

Do you take insurance?

We don’t take insurance and here is why. We believe that you deserve to have complete control over your care. With insurance they can determine the number of sessions, amount of time spent in each session, even down to the diagnosis required for reimbursement. By using your insurance, you automatically give them permission to have access to your information.

What happens if I cannot make it to my appointment?

We have a cancellation policy of 48 hours. Just call to reschedule, and your payment will be applied to your next appointment.

What happens if I cancel late or don’t show up for my scheduled time?

If you cancel with less than 48 hours or do not show up for your session, your payment will be applied to your account for missing the session. Of course we understand life happens and will excuse late cancellations or no shows due to emergencies.

What if I would like to fill out the forms before the first appointment?

Please contact us and we can provide the forms to you via email or our secure client portal. You are also welcome to stop in and pick up the intake packet. We recommend, if you choose to fill the documents out prior to your session, to keep them in a safe place for your security and confidentiality.
